About me

Get to know me better

Now I want to tell you about myself.

More about me

I graduated in Psychology from the University of Barcelona in 2011. After a few years during which I completed some supplementary studies, I obtained the Official Master’s Degree in General Health Psychology, also from the University of Barcelona. I specialized as a Cognitive Behavioral Therapist in the University of Barcelona’s Behavior Therapy Unit.

I have nearly 10 years of clinical experience, having worked with adults, adolescents, and children in various centers and settings. I specialize in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for issues related to anxiety and mood. I also have experience working with complex problems like personality disorders. I offer psychotherapy in various languages: Spanish, Catalan, German, and English. (More about my German below!)

I have clinical experience with needs related to sexual and gender diversity. In particular, I have experience working on issues related to masculinity from an open and tolerant gender perspective. I also have teaching experience, having combined my work as a therapist with teaching at the university as an associate professor in the Department of Clinical Psychology and Psychobiology at the University of Barcelona.

I have taught therapeutic skills, contributing to the training of novice therapists in the Master’s in General Health Psychology. I have also supervised undergraduate and master’s students in their clinical placements and final projects. I have experience in the creation and delivery of workshops, courses, group programs, and seminars. I have also collaborated with the university and other institutions on various projects, such as “Oralitat: Tools and Educational Resources to Learn Public Speaking” and “Reflexions UB” (a project of reflections during the Covid-19 pandemic).

I have also presented clinical case studies and research papers at mental health conferences. During my student years, I served as a student representative at the faculty, in the board and council, as well as at the national and European level, participating in student congresses and meetings for several years.

Deutsch ist meine Muttersprache

Often, German clients/patients ask: why does David speak German with such a surname? Guzmán Pérez doesn’t sound very German, does it? My grandparents belong to a generation of Spaniards who moved to Germany in the early 60s to improve their living conditions. Therefore, my parents grew up in Germany. I was later born in Barcelona after my parents had already moved back to Spain. Still, I learned German at home and at the German School of Barcelona as my first language, along with Spanish.

I speak English too

Growing up in a trilingual home (Spanish, German, and Catalan), I’ve always felt I’m good with languages. I have years of practice working as a therapist in English with patients from all over the world.
